$6,000,000 awarded in boiler accident

A 37-year-old steamfitter, was injured while working at the Arthur Kill generating plant on Staten Island. He and a coworker were installing new gas pipes into the face of a boiler. He was walking on a walkway and bent down and began to slide, when he stood up he hit his head on a pipe. He suffered a herniated cervical disc at C6-7, confirmed by MRI; diffuse brain damage. The brain damage did not manifest itself until two years after the accident when an EEG revealed traumatic epilepsy.

$5,000,000 malpractice settlement

Injury-Spread of Cancer of the Sinuses resulting in removal of both eyes and the nose from the face. This was a medical malpractice claim in which the pathologist misread and/or misinterpreted pathology slides which resulted in the failure to timely diagnose and treat cancer of the sinuses. The plaintiff contended the car operator failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to maintain control of the vehicle, negligently operated the vehicle while intoxicated and failed to yield the right of way. Metal Store Construction Inc. Injury – Left arm fracture with open reduction internal fixation. Plaintiff brought action under the labor law. He was doing demolition work on a 3-story residential building. He was climbing a fire escape ladder to gain access to the building and the ladder detached from the building causing him to fall.

Plaintiff, 35 year-old male, a delivery person, alleged injuries resulting from an accident at defendant Ronal Products’ premises on West 28th Street in Manhattan, N.Y. He went to Ronal Products to deliver six packages of boxes. He claimed that as he entered the premises, there was a truck parked four feet in front of him. As he contemplated going left or right, an automatic garage door was lowered, striking him on the head. He suffered a herniated cervical disc at C6-7, and a bulging lumbar disc at L4-L5. He underwent a discectomy and fusion at C6-C7.
